Spotlight on the Hurricanes

Seven of the ten most expensive hurricanes in U.S. history occurred between August 2004 and October 2005, and all seven affected Florida. Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne swept through Florida in 2004, resulting in more than two million insurance claims for damages exceeding $22 billion, $2 billion more than Hurricane Andrew 12 years earlier. In 2005, Dennis, Katrina, Rita, and Wilma passed through Florida. Wilma was the most destructive of the three for Florida, costing over $7 billion in insured damages statewide.
