Education/Skilled Workforce

A skilled workforce is a critical ingredient for competing in a knowledge-driven global economy and growing high-wage jobs. A homegrown skilled workforce is fostered by a quality education system that starts preparing young minds in early childhood learning programs, supports them through secondary and post-secondary-institutions, and adequately prepares them to succeed in the workforce.  The workforce is also strengthened when college-educated people move to the region.  South Floridian's level of skilled and education must be compared not only to other U.S. metro areas, but globally as well.  Comparisons show that while the United States is still a leader, it is losing ground.  Within the U.S., South Florida compares unfavorably on many measures of workforce quality.
